ASSEMBLY BILL 104
Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 104 (Gonzalez) on July 1, 2021. The bill provides for a limited process to request that high school grades earned during the 2020-21 school year be changed from a letter grade to Pass or No Pass. This process applies only to students attending high school during the 2020-21 school year, and the process must be completed before August 20, 2021.
ASSEMBLY BILL 130
For the 2021-22 school year only, school districts are required to offer students independent study. Under AB 130, a school district must offer independent study for a pupil whose health would be put at risk by in-person instruction, as determined by the parent or guardian. For special education students, participation in independent study continues to be subject to IEP team determination as already provided in the law. LACOE will offer an independent study option through its existing program at Renaissance PAU. It is important to note that students participating in this option will not have the same teacher as the one they were enrolled with while they were in-person.
