Thank you for your interest in applying to the LACHSA Cinematic Arts Department! Please review the following requirements for applying to our department.
PLEASE NOTE - New admissions requirements for 2021-2022 will be posted in October 2020. The requirements below are for 2020-2021 and are subject to change.

Please allow ample time to complete the portfolio submission form and upload any relevant materials. Late or incomplete online applications and/or portfolios will not be viewed or considered.
Fully complete and submit the LACHSA online application by the date listed above.
Prepare and submit your portfolio by the date listed above. See "Portfolio" checklist outlined below.
If all general requirements are met, participate in interview and possible callback with panel.
PLEASE NOTE - Interviews and callbacks are granted only if all general requirements for attending LACHSA have been met. The time and scheduling of interviews and callbacks is determined by the number of applicants.
1. One letter of recommendation from a non-family member. Recommendation letters can be written by a teacher, mentor or an individual who can speak directly to the applicant’s work ethic, maturity, and character.
2. 250-word Essay/Statement of Purpose. Essay should clearly articulate applicant’s goals, passion, experience and motivation for applying to the LACHSA Cinematic Arts program.
3. Short film (2-3 minutes in duration).
Applicant’s short film should explore themes relating to the human experience.
Common themes include: Love, Revenge, Redemption, Sacrifice, Transformation, Innocence (or loss of).
Applicant’s short film should display applicant’s narrative storytelling ability and understanding of cinematic techniques, elements, and fundamental skills.
Films should be written, directed, shot, edited, or a combination of all four by the applicant.
Please, DO NOT submit group projects.
Applicants should avoid casting themselves in their films.
Once the completed application and portfolio are submitted, they will be processed by the department. Applicants will be notified and invited to interview with Cinematic Arts faculty, current students and alumni on February 1, 2020. Applicants should make themselves available on February 2, 2020 in case they are called back for a second interview.
The Cinematic Arts Department at LACHSA will accept primarily incoming 9th graders for the 2020-2021 school year. If accepted, 10th graders will begin their studies at the second-year level of study.
