THEATRE - DESIGN & PRODUCTION
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The LACHSA Theatre Design & Production Track is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of stagecraft and the requisite skills necessary to successfully pursue a career in technical theatre design & production. The program centers on six areas of concentration: lighting, sound, scenery, costumes, props and stage management. Curricular sequencing for the program spans three years with students advancing each year in their knowledge and technical capabilities.
DESIGN & PRODUCTION | APPLICATION PROCESS
STEP ONE
Fully complete and submit the LACHSA online application by Friday, January 12, 2024.
STEP TWO
Come to a live interview on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
The LACHSA Theatre Department is an intense four-year program and is recommended for entry at the ninth grade (First Year level). However, consideration will be given to incoming tenth grade students who can demonstrate exceptional potential and first year equivalent training. Training may come from another arts high school, comparable institution or theatre training non-profit agency. If accepted, a 10th grader would begin his/her studies at the Second Year level of training. Grade-level reciprocation with schools in the Arts Schools Network is available by audition.

LACHSA Theatre looks for a student who has the potential for success in the department. This may not be the student with the most training, but the student who demonstrates a passion for performing and wants to study all aspects of theatre. The student should have a trainable voice and body, and an imagination that can make an emotional connection to characters. The student must be mature enough to handle the rigors of both the arts and academics and possess a capacity for sustained focus and concentration. The student should display a strong commitment to pursue a career in theatre or the theatrical arts.
