General information for Dance auditions at LACHSA.
Dance Audition Requirements -
For the purpose of identifying each dance applicant, the audition may be videotaped.
All Dance Applicants:
- Must arrive 45 minutes prior to scheduled audition time for registration
- Must do self-warm-up prior to the audition. A room is available.
- Will be adjudicated by the Dance Panel through the following:
- Participation in a Ballet Class
- Participation in a Modern Class
- Applicant must be prepared to perform a solo, not to exceed one minute, in any dance style that best represents their talent and training.
The Dance Panel will evaluate all students on: - A potential for trainable growth
- Physical/movement techniques, including coordination, strength and flexibility
- Rhythmic sensibility and musicality
- A serious commitment to dance training and a career as a professional dancer
PLEASE NOTE: Some students will be asked to return to the Callbacks. The callback will be held on the same day after 5:00 PM. A callback list will be posted or announced 10 minutes after each audition is completed. If not asked to stay for the callback, you may leave. The callback does not connote acceptance; and a student who was not called back also may be accepted.
Required Dress - Female Dancers
- Ballet:
- A solid colored leotard
- Pink, brown, or flesh colored tights with toe cut on the toe seam
- Ballet shoes (any color)
- Please bring Pointe shoes if you are en pointe. However, Pointe shoes are not required.
- Do not purchase if you are not already studying pointe.
- Modern:
- Same as the above (no time to change clothes)
- Bare feet---no socks
- You will not need two pairs of tights. Remember to cut tights on the toe seam and pull to your ankle.
- Male Dancers
- Ballet:
- White fitted tee-tank or white tucked in t-shirt
- Black footless tights
- White or black socks
- Ballet shoes
- Modern:
- Same dress as ballet
- Bare feet---no socks
- Warm-up clothes during the audition are not permitted; however, you may wear warm-up clothes in the warm-up room prior to the audition.
- Please remove all watches, dangling jewelry, and tongue rings. Small earring studs are permitted.
- All dancers should have hair neatly up and pulled out of the face.

- Auditions to be held in Luckman Dance Studios A & B.
- Students should arrive by 12:30 PM and sign in at the LACHSA Main Office no later than 1:00 PM. Applicants must be available from 1:30 - 6 PM.
- Ballet barre
- Modern technique across-the-floor
- jazz study
- Each student should prepare a solo in what best demonstrates their ability, not more than a minute in length.
